I got my very own iPhone 3GS about 2 weeks ago and after fooling around with it for a while, finally decided to do my own iPhone 3GS review.

First off, as a user of MANY different types of “cutting edge” cell phones, let me say that NOTHING compares to the iPhone 3GS! It’s like a mini laptop computer in your pocket that can pretty much do ANYTHING a normal computer can do (except Flash) and anything it can’t do, I’m sure someone will write an app for soon anyway!

The iPhone 3GS is visually beautiful. It is thin, compact, doesn’t take up much room in your pocket or wherever you put it and feels sturdy and like it is built to last. The touch screen has ZERO lag at all. Any motion you make, it immediately responds to in real time. It’s amazing how they can pack so much in to such a slim phone that weighs in at only 4.8 oz!

I really didn’t like touch screen phones and preferred a phone with a keyboard like my last phone, the Blackberry Curve. But with the iPhone, I just don’t care anymore. The touch screen’s keyboard almost seems to “read your mind” as you are typing and the auto-correct function is fantastic. In the video demo I type with my thumb one-handed and it still does fine.

Connectors and input/output

30-pin dock connector

3.5-mm stereo headphone minijack

Built-in speaker

Microphone

SIM card tray

iPhone Connectors and Input/Output

One of the big things for me is that I no longer need to “tether” my phone to my laptop to get on certain websites anymore. With the iPhone 3GS because I can access EVERY website I need to for my online marketing business RIGHT through my iPhone! I literally can do all of my work that I need to do on the iPhone itself and work anywhere with this one single device. The iPhone 3GS can get on to websites that I COULD NOT GET ON TO WITH ANY OTHER CELL PHONE! That’s why I said that it’s just like a mini laptop that can do anything you need it to do.

I switched from Verizon along with my wife and we have everything we used to have through Verizon with two new iPhones (yes I got her one too – a 3G) and are saving about $30 per month as I don’t need to tether my phone to my laptop anymore.

From what I’ve read online, the battery life is longer with the 3GS, but I have nothing to compare it to as this is my first iPhone. Compared to other phone I’ve had (the LG Voyager, EnV, Curve, etc.) the battery life seems comparable.

Call quality is good, reception is great here in Florida. Internet speeds are FAST. Email works just like you would think it should.

Overall, I couldn’t be more thrilled with this phone. I know that you hear that some new phone will be the “iPhone Killer” all the time. I’ll tell you what, the people saying that must NEVER have used an iPhone! NOTHING compares to the iPhone. Period.

External buttons and controls

Sleep/wake

Ring/silent

Volume up/down

Home

Last thing I want to say is about getting a warranty. I would recommend getting a warranty for the iPhone through SquareTrade.com. I have been using them for years for ALL of my warranties for a bunch of different items and they are great. And they are CHEAPER than any of the other warranties I saw. Plus they only have a $50 deductible if you break your iPhone accidentally and everyone else does $75!

One quick tip about getting a SquareTrade warranty is to get on their mailing list and wait till Tuesday when they send out the discount codes for their warranties. I got 30% OFF of my iPhone warranties for both my wife’s iPhone 3G and my 3GS!
